Grade Band Selection
For Unique Learning System, the student's grade band should align with their assigned grade level, not their academic ability level.
This approach supports student competence and success in several key ways:
Standards Alignment
Instruction is directly aligned with general education grade-level standards, giving them access to the same foundational concepts as their similarly aged peers.
For students with significant cognitive disabilities, participation in a state’s adopted content standards is generally addressed through extended standards, which may be reduced in depth and breadth. To support this, Everway has developed Instructional Targets that bridge the gap between general content standards and relevant curriculum content. These targets are embedded directly into Unique Learning System lesson plans.
Unique Learning System provides Alignment Tools tailored to all states to support specific state standards. These tools map out exactly how the standards, targets, lessons, activities, and differentiated tasks work together to meet local state requirements.
Age-Appropriate Content
Curriculum topics, thematic units, and reading materials students interact with are appropriate for their age and maturity.
Built-in Differentiation
Unique Learning System automatically adapts the age-appropriate materials across three distinct support levels so that students can meaningfully engage with the grade-level lessons based on their unique learning needs.
