Build equations and formulas

Equation Editor

Type math in plain English, such as “square root of 16,” or write chemical formulas and equations with correct subscripts and symbols. Equatio converts them to clean notation for problem sets, lab reports, and online quizzes.

+ 3 more

Prediction

Get symbol and expression suggestions as you type, so long calculus, statistics, or physics problems go faster.

Chrome

Math Mentor

Enter a problem you're stuck on in the Equation Editor and get a similar practice problem with a step-by-step solution, so you learn the method without being handed the answer to your assignment.

Chrome

LaTeX Editor

Write math in LaTeX and see a live preview as you type. Useful for upper-level math, engineering, and research papers.

Chrome

Handwrite and dictate math

Handwriting Recognition

Write equations with a stylus, finger, or mouse the way you would on paper and get clean digital notation.

+ 1 more

Speech Input

Say an equation aloud, such as "x squared plus 3 equals 7," and Equatio types it for you.

Chrome

Read and visualize math

Screenshot Reader

Capture equations from textbook PDFs, lecture slides, or course websites to hear them read aloud or copy them into the editor.

+ 4 more

Desmos Graphing Calculator

Graph functions from your toolbar to visualize a problem, check your answer, or add a graph to an assignment.

Chrome

Whiteboard

Map out a problem visually with equations, shapes, and sketches on a digital whiteboard.

Chrome

Discoverability

Hover over equations on course websites and online textbooks to hear them read aloud.

Chrome

STEM Tools

Look up elements in the Periodic Table, run calculations with the Desmos Scientific Calculator, and explore chemical structures in the Molecular Viewer without leaving your assignment.

  • Build equations and formulas

Complete math and science homework digitally, without hunting for symbols or learning complex syntax.

Try these tools:

  • Equation Editor: type math answers in plain English and write chemical formulas
  • Math Prediction: speed up repeated notation
  • Math Mentor: work through a similar practice problem step by step when you're stuck
  • LaTeX Editor: write advanced math

Put it into practice: Open a problem set in Google Docs and type your first three answers with Equation Editor. If a problem has you stuck, select Math Mentor to walk through a similar one, then try yours again.

  • Handwrite and dictate math

Show your work in the way that's fastest and most natural for you.

Try these tools:

  • Handwriting Recognition: write multi-step problems on a touchscreen or tablet
  • Speech Input: dictate an equation when writing it out is slow

Put it into practice: Choose a problem from this week's homework. Write one step with Handwriting Recognition and dictate the next with Speech Input. Notice which method feels faster.

  • Read and visualize math

Understand and explore the math in your readings, lectures, and online course materials.

Try these tools:

  • Screenshot Reader: hear an equation from a textbook PDF or lecture slide read aloud
  • Discoverability: hear or copy equations on course websites and online textbooks
  • Desmos Graphing Calculator: graph a function or lab data and see how it behaves
  • Whiteboard: sketch and work through a problem visually
  • STEM Tools: check the Periodic Table, run a calculation, or view a molecule while you study

Put it into practice: Open an online textbook or course page that includes equations. Use Discoverability to hear one read aloud and copy it, then graph it with Desmos. Sketch how you'd solve a related problem on the Whiteboard.

  • Work on math anywhere

Capture, finish, and submit math on whatever device or platform you're using.

Try these tools:

  • Equatio Mobile: photograph handwritten work or whiteboard notes, or to handwrite or dictate math on your phone
  • Mathspace: review, edit, and finish that math on your computer
  • Forms Creator: enter math answers directly on quizzes provided in Google Forms

Put it into practice: After your next class, use Equatio Mobile to photograph a worked example from the whiteboard. Open it in Mathspace on your computer, edit it, and solve a similar problem on your own. The next time your instructor assigns a Google Forms quiz, use Equatio inside the form to enter your answers.
