Put it all together

Now it is time to bring the instructional experience to life. With the Planner serving as a central place to organize and launch instruction, educators can move from a planned schedule and connected resources to meaningful learning experiences for students.

When Unique Learning System core instruction, News2you supplemental learning, Symbolstix supports, and student activities are intentionally incorporated into the plan, educators can provide instruction that reflects the needs identified at the beginning of the journey. Students experience the result as a connected sequence of learning rather than a collection of separate resources, with opportunities to access instruction, engage with content, communicate, and apply learning throughout the classroom experience.

Launching instruction from the Planner

The Planner is where preparation turns into teaching. Because classes, assignments, and supports are already in place, educators can open the Planner, select an assignment card, and teach, without searching across solutions or rebuilding materials in the moment. The same plan supports whole-group, small-group, and individual instruction.

From a single view, educators can move through the sequence they designed.

Four practices for teaching from the Planner: follow the gradual release routine (I Do, We Do, You Do); teach one lesson to every learner with three differentiated levels; use the engagement tools to mark, zoom, pan, read aloud, and navigate with the Go menu; and bring in News2you and Symbolstix at the point of need with the Regular edition, a communication board, and four to five new core vocabulary words at a time.

A connected day in the Planner

Here is one way the pieces can fit together. Adjust the order and timing to match your schedule and students.

A connected day in five steps: a morning routine with Today's Weather or Class News; a whole-group Unique Learning System lesson launched from the Planner with a Symbolstix communication board on hand; small-group rotations; a News2you activity aligned to the same skill; and independent practice on the Student Dashboard.

Planner actions and options

Once lessons, activities, and supports are assigned, the Planner becomes your launch point for instruction. Each assignment card gives you quick access to the actions you need while teaching: launch the lesson, check who has completed the work, make edits, or adjust an assignment in the moment. Tools across the top of the Planner help you build and manage the plan as instruction unfolds. Use the numbered guide below to explore each option.

Student experience from the Planner

For students, the work done in the Planner shows up as consistency and clarity. Every assignment arrives in the same place, organized by the same classes, at the level of support that fits them. Learning follows a predictable structure, and each activity connects to what came before, helping students understand what they are learning and why.

A connected learning experience for every student

Three login methods, from most independent to most support, all lead to the Student Dashboard: username and password; simplified password with a classroom code, where students select their name from a list; and a QR badge for students who have difficulty typing or remembering credentials, printed and laminated and renewed every 365 days. On the dashboard, classes appear with the colors and icons the teacher chose, with assignments organized inside each class.

Content matched to each learner

Because levels are set in each student's account, assignments arrive already differentiated, with no extra steps at launch.

Unique Learning System
  • Differentiated level 1, 2, or 3, with optional overrides for specific units or courses
  • For example, a student can receive Level 1 support in reading and Level 2 in math
News2you
  • A newspaper level (Simplified, Regular, Higher, or Advanced)
  • Differentiated activity level 1, 2, or 3
  • Breaking News text level 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5
Reading level priority
  • Assigned library books align with each student's reading level

Every activity feeds the next plan. What students complete becomes the data that shapes the next plan.

Educators use completion and performance data to adjust levels, settings, and assignments in a continuous cycle. As a result, students access, engage, communicate, and apply learning in a connected, personalized experience that supports growth for every student.

Student Dashboard

Everything you've set up in the Planner and in student account settings comes together when students log in. This short video shows the three ways students can sign in to their Student Dashboard, how they open their classes to find assigned lesson activities and assessments, and how built-in tools and supports help them complete work, with support or on their own. You'll also see how each activity automatically opens at the student's differentiated level, so every learner gets the right level of support with no extra steps.
